Though now there are several organic products available, but below I have stated some DIY hacks which help regain hair quality and are extremely simple and can be done in matter of minutes with products easily available at home.

These are age old, proven and tested methods and advocated strongly by grandmothers. And let’s accept it, they know the best.

How to get the best out of your hair now ?!

Here, I will give you 20 best ways to get smooth, silky, shiny & straight hair permanently:

  1. Banana milk and honey pack

Banana is rich in anti oxidants and highly fibrous and as many benefits it has when eaten, it also acts as a good hair care product. We are all aware of the merits of milk for both internal and external well being of our body.

Ripe bananas often become too soft and inedible, so do not throw it away, instead make a hair pack that will turn your locks smooth, silky and shiny.

Take one ripe banana, about 2-3 table spoon of milk and one part honey. Mix all the 3 ingredients into a smooth paste. Apply it on your hair and leave it for half an hour and then wash it off using a mild shampoo.

You will find your hair bouncy and will look alive.

Use this pack once a week and notice the difference.

  1. Coconut oil

For hundreds of years, we Indians have known the benefits of coconut oil but with recent changes we had discarded this traditional ingredient. We are known for our shiny black and tresses and after much experimentation, we are going back to our roots.

Coconut oil helps in hair growth and keeps the scalp health, preventing the occurrence of dandruff. It keeps the hair shiny and lustrous.

Heat some coconut oil (you can apply it at normal temperature too) by placing it in hot water. Massage it into your scalp and let it rest for half hour. You can tie a hot towel on your head, as it will help in locking the moisture.

Extract the clear pulp from the leaf; you can store it in the freezer too. Mix 2 table spoons of aloe vera pulp with about 10 ml and pour it in a spray bottle.

Eggs are rich source of protein and helps to replenish the lost protein, which makes the hair brittle and lack lustre.

There are several ways that you can incorporate eggs in your hair care routine.

Egg and oil, you can use either olive oil or castor oil or almond oil.

Take a bowl and mix one egg white and add any oil of your choice, about 2-3 table spoons. Remember, never use hot oil. Apply it on your hair before shampooing. Egg acts as a natural hair conditioner.

Mix an egg yolk with curd for a deep conditioning. Let it rest for 20 minutes after application, was your hair with cold water and shampoo. It acts as a serum too.

Take one banana, add one egg yolk, add a spoonful of curd and a few drops of olive oil. Apply it on your scalp and let it rest for an hour. Gently rinse it using cold water.

  1. Apple cider vinegar

We all dream of having of poker straight hair but the salon straightening damages hair beyond repair. So, how to get straight hair naturally?

Mix equal parts of apple cider vinegar and water and apply it on your hair regularly. It will smoothen out the waves.

  1. Castor oil

Warm castor oil and massage it along the length of your hair and wrap a warm, damp towel and leave it for 45 to 60 minutes.

It will not only give your hair a lasting shine but also straighten out your hair.

  1. Lemon juice

Lemon has high content of vitamin C and it has a lot of anti bacterial properties. By rubbing lemon on your scalp before taking a shower helps in removing dandruff. Dandruff is one of the worst scalp related problem.

  1. Lemon juice, oil and honey

Mix a tablespoon of honey to the juice of one lemon a 4-5 drops of coconut oil. Remember not to use hot oil as it will lead to the cooking of the honey. It will help to prevent the hair from going frizzy.

  1. Fenugreek

Methi or fenugreek which is one of the staple spice of Indian cooking, but did you know that it is a wonderful ingredient for your hair too.

In a copper vessel take a 100 ml of coconut oil and add about 10 gms fenugreek and simmer it for 10-15 minutes till the oil has reduced half and gives a slight pungent smell. Apply it on your hair and store the rest.

Leave it on for half hour. It will nourish your hair and give it a nice glow.

  1. Beer

If you have some stale beer lying around in your fridge, don’t throw it away. Beer has very good conditioning properties. It livens up your dry hair.

Mix the beer in double the amount of water and rinse your hair with this mixture after you have shampooed and conditioned your hair.

Do not use anymore water afterwards.

  1. Amla

The Indian gooseberry is a rich source of vitamins and acts as a wonderful supplement for dry hair.

Dry the amla in the sun and turn it into powder in a grinder. Take 2 tablespoons of amla powder and same quantity of lemon juice. Apply it for 15 minutes and rinse it off.

  1. Avocado

If you have dense curls, then your hair plight is ever more than the general population. But fear not we have a simple solution for you.

Make a hair pack using 1 ripe avocado, 1 tbsp each of honey, coconut oil and apple cider vinegar. Blend the ingredients together and apply it along the entire length of your hair. Wash it off after 30 minutes but do not use shampoo on the same day.

  1. Rice water

As we grow older, our hair after facing lifelong abuse becomes dry and brittle, easily breaking off. And with age, our body loses its ability to generate hair, thereby leading to baldness. One of the easiest methods is to wash your hair with rice water. It is a natural conditioner.

When we wash the raw rice, do not throw away the water, it is a whitish colour liquid. It is rich in starch which helps in making the hair stronger.

  1. Essential oil

Take any essential oil of your choice, add 4-5 drops in a warm mixture of 2 tbsp each of coconut oil, olive oil and jojoba oil. Apply it on your hair, twice a week. Do turban therapy after the oil application.

  1. Egg and mayonnaise

Most of us love colouring our hair, and it looks very gorgeous and gives a certain character to your hair. But post colouring our hair goes for a toss. So how to save your hair?

Firstly, you can use henna instead of chemical colours or if you do use it, then look for colours without ammonia.

Secondly, post colouring you can nourish your hair by making a hair pack by whipping one part of egg and two parts of mayonnaise. Cover the hair from root to tip and let it rest for half an hour. Wash it off using a sulphate free shampoo and cold water.

Do not blow dry but just pat dry your hair.

  1. Strawberries

Strawberries are delicious to eat and when accompanied with milk and honey. It sounds like delicious desert. But these ingredients work wonders for straightening your hair too. Surprised!

Mix two table spoons of milk with one tea spoon of honey and add fresh strawberry paste to it. Apply it to your hair and leave it for a couple of hours, and then wash it off. With regular application your hair would turn straighter.

  1. Coconut milk

Coconut milk is a creamy substance and has wonderful moisturising properties; if you mix it with lemon juice it will give you smooth, shiny and straight hair.

  1. Argan oil

Argan oil is one of the best ingredients to keep your hair soft and smooth. You can it apply individually but the best method is to apply it by mixing with other oils like coconut oil, olive oil, jojoba oil or even mustard oil for that matter.

Here I have stated some ways to get luscious mane. Apart from that keep your internal system good by eating a balanced diet rich in omega 3, leafy vegetables and fruits and most importantly adequate quantity of water.
